Useful Ultrasonic Scaling Technique Tips
Seven easy to follow ultrasonic scaling techniques that ensure you have maximum efficiency with minimal risk of tooth damage during your dental procedures.
- Apply light pressure on the scaler to allow ultrasonic vibration to take place
- The tip should never be used on its point as it will work like a jackhammer and create a hole in the tooth.
- Heavy pressure stops the tip from vibrating, rendering it a hand scaler!
- Ensure there is an uninterrupted flow of water to flush debris, cool the tip of the scaler and to create cavitational energy
- Ensure you continually move the tip over the tooth, not spending more than 10 seconds on each tooth
- Applying too heavy pressure and spending too long on a tooth can create heat in one area which can cause catastrophic consequences for PULP!
- Scale teeth in blocks of four – this helps you have maximum efficiency with minimal risk of tooth damage
