Why TRUFORMA® Makes Sense for Your Practice

Why wait 24-48 hours for send-away laboratory results when you can diagnose and begin treatment during the same visit?

Start treatment sooner:
Rapid in-practice results support faster clinical decisions, helping your team act while the patient is still in the clinic and improve patient outcomes.

Improve the client experience:
Give owners clearer answers and treatment plans sooner, with greater transparency during consultations and fewer avoidable follow-up visits.

Increase your pharmacy revenue:
Practices in the US have seen pharmacy capture rates increase from 67% to as high as 96%, simply because treatment decisions can be made while the patient is still in the clinic. Faster diagnosis can also increase pharmacy-spend opportunities by up to 30%.

Look beyond the headline laboratory price:
When comparing send-away testing, consider the full cost: carriage charges, repeat testing caused by sample issues, delays, and the time spent chasing results and contacting owners.

Give owners the answers they value:
Many owners are happy to pay slightly more for faster answers, quicker treatment plans and greater peace of mind.

Where Can TRUFORMA® Support Your Practice?

TRUFORMA® offers a broad menu of assays covering thyroid, adrenal, gastrointestinal, cardiac, reproductive, and metabolic health. Each assay is designed to give veterinary professionals rapid, accurate results in-practice, supporting confident diagnoses and timely treatments for complex conditions.

Including assays not available through other in-clinic platforms, such as feline-optimised TSH and in-clinic cobalamin/folate.

Thyroid (Complete in-clinic thyroid profiling):

TRUFORMA® brings Total T4, Free T4, and TSH testing directly into your practice, enabling you to create a complete thyroid panel on-site. It’s the only platform to offer an in-clinic Free T4 assay, as well as the first feline-optimised TSH assay, capable of detecting the low TSH levels that indicate feline hyperthyroidism. Together, these assays allow for earlier detection, more accurate diagnoses, and better monitoring of thyroid disease in both dogs and cats.

Adrenal (Diagnose and monitor adrenal dysfunction):

With assays for cortisol (canine & equine) and endogenous ACTH (canine & equine), TRUFORMA® gives you the tools to accurately assess adrenal health. The in-clinic eACTH assay is the only one of its kind, helping differentiate whether canine Cushing’s disease is pituitary- or adrenal-dependent before the patient leaves the exam room. These assays are also invaluable for diagnosing Addison’s disease and for ongoing monitoring of therapy, ensuring medication doses are optimised for each patient.

GI Health (Rapid assessment of gastrointestinal function):

The TRUFORMA® panel for cPL, cobalamin, and folate empowers your practice to evaluate exocrine pancreatic function and intestinal health quickly and reliably. This means you can identify conditions like pancreatitis, cobalamin deficiency, or malabsorption syndromes without sending samples away. Faster in-house results allow you to stabilise patients sooner and guide nutritional or medical interventions with confidence.

Cardiac (Support early detection of heart disease):

The NT-proBNP assay is available in-practice through TRUFORMA®, giving vets a valuable biomarker to support the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac disease in dogs. Having this assay available immediately helps clinicians distinguish between primary cardiac conditions and respiratory disease, enabling faster and more targeted treatment for patients presenting with complex clinical signs.

Reproductive (Reliable support for breeding and timing):

With the canine progesterone assay, TRUFORMA® enables vets and breeders to make informed decisions around ovulation timing, breeding management, and pregnancy monitoring. Running this test in-house allows you to provide guidance without delay, improving client satisfaction and ensuring optimal reproductive outcomes.

Metabolic (Screen and monitor insulin dysregulation):

TRUFORMA® includes two equine insulin assays — a default range and an auto-dilute mode for higher concentrations — allowing accurate diagnosis and monitoring of insulin dysregulation. This is especially valuable for equine metabolic syndrome and laminitis risk assessment. With precise results in under 20 minutes, practices can advise owners on management and treatment options straightaway.

PER-TEST PRICING AT A GLANCE:

TRUFORMA® cartridges are designed to deliver rapid, reference-lab quality results in your own clinic. Each cartridge provides a single test, giving you clarity on the exact cost per result with no hidden fees or outsourcing charges.

GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGY

Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW)

Put the same technology used in aerospace and telecommunications to work in your practice! Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) is an innovative, non-optical, fluorescence-free technology that delivers accurate, reliable results when assessing complex conditions.

1. Signal in – An RF signal is delivered to the BAW sensor

2. Frequency shift – The sensor resonance frequency changes as mass is added to the sensor surface

3. Signal out – The modified RF signal is used to calculate a frequency shift due to mass binding

Hear Real Experiences from Practices Using TRUFORMA®

What practices are seeing in real use:

“Our external lab service is excellent but prices have risen. The TRUFORMA enables us to perform certain tests in-house that we had been previously sending away, for example ProBNP. As well as providing rapid results, there are cost reductions for clients which helps with recommending the tests.”

- Carol Dobson, Veterinary Surgeon, Craigpark Veterinary Centre

“We love the Truforma in-house lab testing system in our equine clinic. It’s transformed how we manage insulin cases, giving us fast, reliable results on-site.

This allows us to diagnose and begin treatment the same day, often sending medication home with clients and avoiding the need for a second visit.

Reducing repeat visits helps to minimise stress for both horses and their owners, while the consistency of results gives us confidence in our clinical decisions. Clients really value the speed and clarity this approach provides.”

- Chloe, Joint Practice Manager, Nantwich Equine

“We’ve found our Truforma unit to be exceptionally user-friendly and a valuable addition to our equine practice. The ability to perform accurate in-house diagnostic testing and receive dependable results quickly, enables faster clinical decision-making and improves efficiency within the practice.”

- Hannah, Equine Veterinary Nurse, Thompson House Equine

How is it different from diagnostics in reference labs?

Currently, reference labs use three types of immunoassays, namely fluorescent, chemiluminescent, and radioimmunoassay, to detect analytes of interest. These tests require large, expensive equipment that can analyze the optical and radioactive markers. TRUFORMA® uses differentiated Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) sensor technology to provide a non-optical and fluorescence-free detection system for use in the clinic. The biosensor is located on the small, disposable cartridges that are pre-loaded with reagents. The tabletop instrument is able to easily detect a frequency change in the sensor when the analyte of interest is present.

What are the initial assays?

Total Thyroxine (tT4) for cats and dogs; Free Thyroxine (fT4) for dogs; Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) for cats and dogs; Cortisol for dogs; Endogenous Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (eACTH) for dogs.

What is the sample size?

Approximately 110-150 µL of sample is needed to run a test. Please use the bulb pipette included and fill to the top of the pipette to dispense the correct sample amount into the sample port on the TRUFORMA® cartridge. The pipette included is designed to capture any overfill, ensuring that the sample dispensed will not exceed 150 µL. Addtionally, please note that the cartridge does not test whole blood samples at this time. Please use serum only for fT4, tT4, TSH and Cortisol; plasma only for eACTH.

Do I need two samples for cortisol?

No. TRUFORMA® provides a baseline cortisol result from a single test in approximately 16–20 minutes (assay dependent), avoiding paired draws and reference-lab delays.

How do TRUFORMA® cPL results differ from SNAP-style tests?

SNAP-style tests provide a qualitative screen (positive/negative) that may require a follow-up test to obtain a numeric value. TRUFORMA® cPL delivers a quantitative result in minutes, supporting quicker decision-making without extra steps.

What ongoing maintenance does the TRUFORMA® system require?

TRUFORMA® requires minimal routine maintenance. As part of standard preventative maintenance, the air filter located on the rear of the instrument should be replaced monthly to ensure optimal performance.

To replace the air filter:

  • Power off the instrument and unplug the power cable from the rear
  • Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the filter retainer (note the orientation - an arrow is moulded into the plastic)
  • Remove and discard the used filter
  • Insert a new filter (the filter is symmetrical and has no front or back)
  • Refit the retainer, reconnect the power cable, and power the unit back on

Fan filters are available in packs of five and are also included with new and replacement TRUFORMA® device shipments.

What is the test cartridge shelf life?

TRUFORMA® cartridges are manufactured with a shelf life of approximately 8 to 13 months, depending on the specific assay. Customers will receive cartridges with a minimum of 4 weeks remaining shelf life at the time of delivery. Any cartridges that run out of date, Pioneer will offer a credit or replacement cartridge.

To ensure optimal performance through the expiration date, cartridges should be stored refrigerated at 2–8°C (36–46°F) and used before the expiry printed on the package label.

How many times can a cartridge “cycle” (sit out – put back in refrigerator – sit out, etc.)

It is recommended to store cartridges in the refrigerator until the test is ready to run. It is not necessary to let the cartridge warm to room temperature prior to running the test. However, a cartridge can be cycled up to 6 times (not to exceed 24hrs of combined room temperature exposure) in an unopened pouch without affecting the results.

How many result records can TRUFORMA® hold?

TRUFORMA® stores the results of the last 100 tests run. A complete history of all test results is available at MyZomedica.com.
